Surprise Guest

Today when I got home from work I was surprised to see we had a couple of visitors. Our friend Suzanne and her new-born baby Nate. Well I guess not quite new-born, he was born two month ago but didn’t come home until this week.  Seeing the little guy when I walked through the door was a bit of a surprise, though I think what surprised me more was how much I wanted to hold the little guy.

It’s been almost 4 years since Violet was born and though I’m confident in our family’s decision not to have any more children, holding little Nate, and giving him his bottle brought back so many memories from my kids. The years have just flown by so quickly that it’s nice to take the opportunity to sit and marvel at a new life. I know that before long even little Nate will be crawling, then walking and before you know it he’s off to his first day of school.

Violet wasn’t sure what to make of Nate, at first she seemed taken a bake to see a little baby in Mommies and Daddies arms. She wouldn’t have anything to do with him. Then slowly she got interested and then the switched flipped and all she wanted to do was hold him and give him kisses. It was very sweet. It got me thinking that she’d be a great big sister, of course she’ll have to settle for being a great baby sister when she’s only.

Even Jacob wanted to hold the baby, but he was more interested in our new Angry Birds Star Wars game then little Nate. But then he’s a 6-year-old boy, so that’s not surprising. Though thinking about it about there is a little of already done that for Jacob, after all he was almost a year younger than Violet is now when we brought Violet home.

It was nice to have the company for dinner tonight, and a specially nice to get a chance to see baby Nate outside of the hospital for the fist time. And though I still like babies I’m glad I’ll be having no more babies of my own.

  1. Mike yes it was so nice to see Suzanne and Nate out of the hospital. You and Melissa will be great Aunt and Uncle to Nate and the kids will love their little cousin.
