Dear Violet on your Second birthday

My sweet little girl, my how you have grown in the last two years. I can still remember the day you were born and just how tiny your little hands and feet were. You had this great big eyes that blinked open to meet the world around you. It has been amazing to be able to watch as you get older and learn to express yourself and there is so much I want to tell you but I can never find the words.

I know that you are shy and that’s ok because I am shy too. I understand that meeting new people can be hard, but I guarantee that it is usually worth it.  Just remember you have people who are there for you when you need them and who aren’t going to leave you, no matter what.

It’s very obvious that you love your big brother Jacob I know that he loves you too. When I watch the two of you play together it really warms my heart.  There have been some times when you get upset because both Jacob and you want the same toy and don’t want to share….just remember he is your brother and even though he might do things that make you upset it is important that you always forgive him; he will always be there for you when it matters.

Growing up you are going to face some challenges that I have never had to face because the world is changing all the time. I can not predict what these challenges will be but I can do is let you know that what ever they all you wont have to face them alone; I will always be here, ready to give you my love and support. One of the challenges you will face will be living a life without nuts which at times that will be hard, and seem unfair. I wish I could just wave a magic wand and make your allergies go away, but as with most things in life it doesn’t work that way. I wish it did, but know this you will not go through this alone….We have cut nuts out of ours house since the day we found out, and I have tried to give them up completely as well, but I haven’t been perfect; Today on your second birthday I promise to join you on your peanut/nut free life so that you don’t have to feel like the only one who can’t have cake at a birthday party.

You are becoming so independent and wanting to do everything by yourself, from eating to dressing…that is a bittersweet feeling for me. Being independent is a good thing but always remember that everyone needs help sometimes and that your Mommy and I are here to give you that help. You don’t need to grow up so fast Violet…it’s okay to be little and enjoy your childhood for a lot more years…… and no matter how fast you grow up, you will always be my little baby girl.

I love you and will always be here for you no matter what.

Love Daddy
