Last week the anniversary of the launch of Geek With Kids passed without comment from me. This wasn’t an intentional slip up. I was working on a post for the occasion all last week it just never got published. Looking through the draft folder on my blog shows a bunch of posts in various stages of writing that will probably never see the light of day. Some are posts I am still looking for the words to express my thoughts. Others are reactions to things that have long past that I wanted write about but never found the words or the time to publish.
The problem with the blog is its public, whatever I write here is seen by family, friends, co-workers and strangers. So before I press publish I always run it by my inner editor, if I’m honest the editor is with me for each word I type. This makes it harder to get the ideas out. It’s what keeps me from publishing directly from the phone and from running off at the keyboard over random things. But on the days when I get past the editor long enough to write-up the reaction or rant it feels good. Even if it just sits in my drafts folder never to be read again. It feels good to write, it’s one thing I’ve enjoyed doing sence I was a kid and I miss it. I love to write, I just have a problem sharing it with others. That’s why Project 365 has taken over my blog. Though I am thinking that has to change.
How do I change it? How do I get back to writing for my blog, not just snapping a picture? That I haven’t figured out, but with a bit of luck of the next few weeks you’ll begin to see the difference here on the blog.
That's the aspect of blogging that holds me back. I kept personal journals for many many years and find that bogging is too public for me to write in the same way. I like your idea of keeping entries in "draft". That way one can journal freely and select and edit entries for posting.
